Asher D (real name Ashley Walters) was born on 30 June 1982 in Peckham, South London, although he is often associated with Battersea, also in South London, due to his ties with the grime/garage collective So Solid Crew. He is also an actor, having attended the Sylvia Young school, he has starred in a few London based films including 'Sugarhouse' and the criticaly acclaimed 'Bullet Boy'.

Asher D seems to be more active musically in recent times, after the attention So Solid received diminished, as well as a period of acting commitments. Asher D featured heavily on So Solid Crew's debut album 'They Don't Know', especially considering the size of the crew, which had in excess of 50 members at its peak. The album spawned hits including '21 Seconds', which reached #1 in the UK Singles' Chart and 'Woah', a track whose sound lended focus to the transition from garage to grime. His latest CD is The Appetiser, which was released on AD82 Productions, a production company he co-owns.

He has had some disputes with other artists in the scene, including Wiley and Dizzee Rascal.

On the 26th of October 2008, Asher D announced his planned retirement from music after he has completed his next album, on the Westwood show on BBC1XTRA. it is beleived that his last tune maybe the one he is working on now which is the remix of F-tizzle's 'out in the street' aslo featuring durrty goodz, produced by the movement IMP batch from milton keynes.
