Dot Rotten is a well established and hailed mc and producer from South London. He is known for his emotionally driven beats and insightful lyrics.
He originally gained exposure from his most popular instrumental to date, Bazooka Riddim.
Dot Rotten was originally known as Young Dot, a name he left behind to portray a different image of himself. Under "Young Dot" he released his début mixtape, This is the Beginning. The mixtape was offered as a free download, and was described by many as the best release of 2006.
Originally a member of the Essentials crew, Dot Rotten left due to a disagreement with Big REM and went on to form OGz Crew with P Money, Blacks, N.E, Jendor and Little Dee.
It was from here that Dot Rotten gained acclaim in the scene, featuring heavily on the collectives first Mixtape, OG season Volume 1.
Dot Rotten has produced a series of 6 instrumental releases, named Rotten Riddims. A seventh was recently released as a free download.
Dot Rotten is often referred to as one of the outstanding talents in the grime scene.
Disagreement with Little Dee:
In 2009 Dot Rotten had a disagreement with fellow crew member Little Dee. While the details are unknown at present, Little Dee has said that he found a diss track made by Rotten on his computer.
A series of verbal exchanges followed and Dot Rotten left the OGz collective to pursue a solo career.
Young Dot To Dot Rotten
Dot changed his name to Dot Rotten, after wanting to start afresh. As Young Dot said,
"it represents a time when I was reckless and ignorant and wasn’t really too on point. Basically I didn’t have my head screwed on, I had a lot of things happen that put a tarnish on the name Y.Dot, itself. So it was to have a fresh start plus Dot Rotten stands for 'Dirty on Tracks, Righteous Opinions Told To Educate Nubians' or Niggas or whatever… There’s deeper meanings to it all so its all part of being a process of becoming a new artist, to market myself differently now"[1]
Lyrics
Sometimes I Feel Like I’m Riding Alone \ Born On My Own So I Die On My Own \ I Ain’t Gonna Lie To The Public \ I Will Go Mad If The Enemy Try To Oppose \ Back In The Day I Was Moving Slow \ Off Key But Now I Stay Light On My Toes \ Cos I Can’t Stand When The Average Bystander \ Starts Asking Me Why I’m On The Roads \ You Guys You Need To Tighten Your Flows
Step to the booth with an empty page//freestylin' tryna' empty rage//Ive never seen life the way I look at it now// ever since i hit the twenty age//
These MC’s Show Me Respect \ The Ones That Don’t Hate Cos They Owe Me Respect \ Since I Was A Lonely Cadet \ With A Tech I Never Moved With The Phoniest Set
Certain MCs just ain't got a reason to spit/ They're sitting in their room tryna write violent bars/ But they ain't greezy a bit/ Whose doors have they kicked whose keys have they licked/ I heard they're gonna ice me/ But they're scared, shook so they freeze when they see me in the bits
