WileyFrom Grime Wikipedia(Redirected from Eskiboy)
Early WorkWiley first started producing in 1996, working in various genres, notable Jungle and Garage. Wiley first became well known in the East London underground garage scene during the late 1990s, when he was a member of the Pay As You Go Cartel, who had some limited UK chart success. He also co-produced "Nicole's Groove" as Phaze One, and appeared on several tracks by other artists. He made numerous vinyl releases, often driving around London himself selling to record shops. One of these, "Eskimo", was a huge success on the underground scene, reputedly selling in the thousands, where most other artists within the scene could only sell 500-1000 copies of their tracks. He regularly appeared on East London pirate radio stations playing grime tracks, which helped increase his profile. He still does underground events, like Lord Of The Mics 1 , Eskimo Dance, and also does Sidewinder but with his group Roll Deep, which he left Pay As You Go Cartel to create. CareerIn 2004, Wiley released his debut album, Treddin' On Thin Ice, which is a classic album in the scene. It featured his well-known singles 'Wot Do You Call It' and Pies. The 'Eskibeat' sound was pioneered on this album. He worked with his crew Roll Deep to make In At The Deep End which was released in 2005. In 2006, he released his second album Da 2nd Phaze, and in 2007, he released another album, Playtime Is Over, which featured his well-known songs 'Gangsters', '50-50' and 'My Mistakes' amongst others. Playtime Is Over featured MCs like JME, Manga and Jookie Mundo. In 2008, Wiley released Grime Wave, a mixtape which featured many other grime artists like Flow Dan, Tinchy Stryder and Brazen as well as producers like Bless Beats. Later that year, Wiley was signed to a major record label and released See Clear Now, which shocked grime fans due to its far more mainstream sound. See Clear Now featured the songs Wearing My Rolex (which reached number 2 in the UK Singles Chart) and 'Cash In My Pocket', featuring Daniel Merriweather, and Summertime. After its release many grime fans were seen on the streets vomiting. It was never thought that the Godfather of Grime would ever release songs for the posh public and the white manner featuring hooks associated with indie rock and homosexual music. In 2009, Wiley left his record label after criticising it heavily due to forcing his hand to make mainstream music. He released Race Against Time, an album which returned to his trademark grime style and was considered one of the best albums of the year. Race Against Time featured the songs 'She's Glowing', which featured Kano and Ghetts, and 'Where's My Brother', which is thought to be a dub towards Durrty Goodz. In early 2010, he formed the mainstream collective The A-List with Wrigley, Brazen and Bless Beats. They released the disturbingly (gay) track Midnight Lover. Like in 2008, many grime fans returned to vomiting whilst DJs like MistaJam on 1Xtra began hypin about the A-List as well as Wileys brilliant work-rate. He later released more gaystream solo material such as Take That and Never Be Your Woman. In a disgusting publicity stunt to attract more grime fans, Wiley left Island Records and faked an argument with his manager John Woolf, firing him over Twitter. Wiley subsequently released 11 free Zip Files, full of mostly mainstream material from himself, Wrigley and The A-List. The few grime tracks that were included got grime fans hypin again, fooling them into thinking that he was going back to grime. Wiley's next album is to be called King Richard III, which includes the track From The Drop which is produced by MJ Cole. This track is not on a grime beat, in fact it is the completely opposite. However because there is no gaystream hook, people have been fooled into thinking that it is a grime track and that his album will be full of grime. However this is not the case. Fuurthermoree.
