This Is The Beginning is the free-download mixtape from Young Dot. The mixtape was released on Young Dot's older myspace before he changed his name to 'Dot Rotten' in 2007. Dot described 'This is the Beginning' as the result of 'just sitting in the studio, trying to get something done', and that 'I wasn’t really trying to make an effect on anything I was just doing a project because I had studio time and was making instrumentals'[1].

The mixtape is very highy-regarded, and seen as one of the best releases of the year, despite being free material.
